Vocal Music Audition Requirements, Grades 3 - 7

For students in grades 3 - 7 at time of audition:

    Performance: Students will prepare two solo songs to perform.
    1. Required Song:
      1. One song must be from the list of suggested prepared pieces.  Sheet music and accompaniment recording are provided.
        1. All Through the Night (Accompaniment Recording for All Through the Night)
        2. Shenandoah (Accompaniment Recording for Shenandoah)
        3. The Water is Wide (Accompaniment Recording for The Water is Wide)
        4. Amazing Grace (Accompaniment Recording for Amazing Grace)
        5. Gary, Indiana (Accompaniment Recording for Gary, Indiana)
        6. Happy Birthday (Accompaniment Recording for Happy Birthday)
        7. My Country Tis of Thee (Accompaniment Recording for My Country Tis of Thee)
        8. Tomorrow (Accompaniment Recording for Tomorrow)
      2. The song can be performed without accompaniment or using the provided accompaniment recording.
    2. Student Choice Song:.
      1. The song can be performed without accompaniment or using a recorded accompaniment track (instrumental only - must not contain other voices).
      2. This song should be school and age appropriate.
  1. On-Demand:
    1. Students will sing vocal exercises (warm-ups) to hear their voice throughout their range, moving through the low register first, then up through the head voice (will be provided to the audition proctor). 
    2. Students will be asked to echo melodic patterns (music will be provided to the audition proctor).
    3. Students will be asked to echo rhythmic patterns using body percussion (music will be provided to the audition proctor).
  2. Video Submissions: All prepared and on-demand portions of the auditions will be submitted on video. Your school arts teacher or gifted and talented resource teacher will help with submission.
  3. SCAPA Bluegrass: Students wishing to be considered for a placement at SCAPA Bluegrass must complete the district’s Special Programs Application on SchoolMint. There are no additional audition requirements beyond what is listed above.
    1. Recommendations: Applicants may also include, as additional evidence for GT identification, one or more positive recommendations from an arts teacher/professional who knows you as an artist. Reference contacts will be submitted and sent through SchoolMint.

**Non-FCPS students will attend a recording session on a weekday to record the on-demand activities.
