FCPS Sending Two Math-Letes to Nationals

Bourne Fan of SCAPA at Bluegrass was the overall top individual scorer in the 2026 Kentucky MathCounts state contest, and Alex Wang of Winburn Middle placed third. The top four students will be part of the state team to compete at nationals this May in Orlando, Florida! They also have a choice of a four-year $3,000 scholarship to the University of Kentucky’s Pigman College of Engineering or a full-tuition scholarship to the University of Louisville (U of L).

In the state team standings, SCAPA was runner-up followed by Winburn in the March 14 competition hosted by UK. Nearly 150 math-letes from 43 middle schools participated. Beaumont’s Aarav Tibrewal finished ninth among individuals, earning a $1,500 per-year scholarship for four years to U of L.

Fayette County Public Schools had 10 more students place in the state’s Top 30: 11. Jessina Duan of SCAPA; 12. David Sun of Winburn; 13. Leyang Shi of SCAPA; 14. Alice Liu of SCAPA; 15. Satvik Garg of Tates Creek Middle; 22. Aleeza Xiang of Winburn; 24. Daniel Dziubla of Leestown; 25. Matthias Myrup of Morton; 26. Oliver Stitzer of Tates Creek; and 28. Bingqi (Pinkie) Lin of Winburn.
