SCAPA Sweeps MLK Essay Competition

Eighth graders from SCAPA at Bluegrass swept Fayette County’s 2026 MLK Essay Contest, which is open to middle schoolers throughout Lexington. All three submitted their entries through teacher Jacque Adkins: 

• Winner ($500 prize) -- Noor Badin
• Runner-Up ($300) – Jessina Duan
• 3rd Place ($100) – Emily Beck 

These classmates attended the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Unity Breakfast at the Central Bank Center, where Noor read her first-place essay aloud during the program. 

The contest is sponsored by the Alpha Beta Lambda Education Foundation and Lexington chapter Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.
